I just realized that I haven’t yet posted the rest of the photos from my Las Vegas trip. Oops! Anyway, here are a few of the lovely/beautiful/interesting things that I came across during my wanderings:

Inside Caesar’s Palace

The Venetian- (where The Sands once stood. Hallowed ground! :) )

The Bellagio

Inside the lobby of the Bellagio- Dale Chihuly’s gorgeous “Fiori di Como”

Inside the Cosmopolitan hotel

The Eiffel Tower at the Paris hotel

Casino Royale

Chanel store at the Bellagio. Oh, swoon!

Lollipops in the Sugar Factory at Planet Hollywood

Looking pensive (or something) while wandering through the lovely Forum Shops

And just because I love it so:

Is that imitation Eiffel Tower the the same size as the real thing? I went up the tower in Paris in 1998 when the football World Cup was being held there, and it was a stunning sight to behold.

    • Ooh, I’m jealous! I’ve never had the chance to go to Paris. I’d love to.

And no, it’s built to scale, but it’s only half of the height of the real thing. The hotel developers originally intended to make it full scale, but it’s too close to the airport, and they eventually realized that it would become a safety concern because of that. It still provides a wonderful view of the strip, though. That hotel is cheesy, but kind of fun. It’s the one that Michael Jackson lived in when he lived in Vegas. I have no clue why anyone would chose that hotel over some of the other (way nicer) ones, but he was an odd fellow, so who knows. :)

I’v been to a fair few European cities, but Paris, I think, is my favourite. I find the French to be a misunderstood people; they have a reputation for being arrogant and haughty, and deeply dismissive of Yanks and Brits, but I didn’t find that at all. Everyone in Paris just seems to effortlessly ooze cool- even the down-and-outs have a certain je ne sais quoi that one simply has to admire. Try to go there at some point!

Do they still have those robot-statues in the forum shops that put on a little show every few hours? I haven’t been to Vegas in years. Half of those Hotel/Casinos I don’t recognize.

Sorry to be a party-pooper, but to be honest, I didn’t really like Las Vegas that much. I thought the place was a hedonistic monument to consumer capitalism. I visited the city during an ’05 vacation in California, Arizona and Nevada. I supposed I’m biased though. I’m just more into natural scenic areas when I travel — so during that vacation, I did like the Grand Canyon, various desert areas, California’s beaches and Yosemite National Park. :-)

    • Oh I definitely understand that, for sure. I find it kind of bizarre that I love it as much as I do, honestly. What I don’t like is its (relatively) recent Disneyfication and focus on being family-friendly. One Disneyland is enough, seriously. And I would love to see Vegas circa 1960. Swoon!
